Last night my friend Jon Dewitt gave me an assist on connecting my Mac to my PS3 as a media server. I thought for sure that I could just mount my MacBook Pro as a hard drive of sorts via USB, or for sure connect to my PS3 through my WiFi network but neither of these options worked and I was left stumped.

After some forum crawling I found an option using Elgato’s program EyeConnect. I didn’t read much into (I get impatient) and just installed EyeConnect and went for it. My PS3 was able to see the files on my MacBook Pro, but it didn’t play any music or videos; I could only browse photos. Then I read more and found that there were an abundant amount of issues with this method because it was using EyeConnect as a work around and not what it was actually intended for (which I also didn’t read about ;] ).

While I was trying the EyeConnect method Jon came across MediaLink by Nullriver. MediaLink costs $20 but it is totally sweet and works perfectly. I know that I personally hate buying an app that I am not sure is going to worth it, but take my word for it, it works awesome and I am listening to my iTunes library as I write this without any chords plugged into my computer to my stereo.

What is even sweeter is that Nullriver made it so that it is iLife compatible, not just iTunes, it can browse iPhoto and your movies easily. And even better, you can browse all the files on your computer if you set the correct permissions and migrate any media you want over to your PS3 if you don’t want to always stream your media (some larger video files played a little choppy when I was doing system intensive stuff on my comp).

MediaLink is incredibly easy to setup, just install, set your preferences and activate. You will have complete access to all your media on your Mac from your PS3. I highly recommend shelling out the 20 dollars to get this app, no work arounds, or hacks, it just works (>< had to throw that in there, I am working on an Apple product).

Buy a PS3

This past weekend my former roommate, Jill’s former roommate and our great friends got married. The wedding was spectacular and there was an epic party afterward. I don’t know what happened the night before with the female side of the bridal party, but on the guy’s end there was one of the most insane games of keep away ever played in the history of games being played…and we broke probably 30 plastic dart tips. Anyway here is a slide show of some of Jill and my pics:

My new theme is up

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

I have just launched my new theme. Ever since I was hacked I have been depressed about joeydehnert.com and haven’t wanted to do anything with it. But I had an idea for a large image rotating background and I felt compelled to try it out. This current theme is the end result.

The newest additions to the family

I recently picked up a few Mighty Muggs. I got Darth Vader and Indiana Jones. These are by far my favorite collectible that I have ever collected. You should definitely pick some up if you are into vinyl toys.

I got hacked!

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Things may look different around here for a bit because some asshole hacked joeydehnert.com and added over 1,000 links in my footer. I am guessing that he took advantage of a WordPress exploit because I was running a really old installation. It is really messed up that someone did this and I can’t wait for karma to punch them in the face for me.

The strange thing is that I only thought to check my site because my friend Sujan Patel told me that his wife Amy Patel got hacked in the same way. Some idiot just put a bunch of pharmaceutical links in the footer of her site.

It really pisses me off that the internet has to be full of these idiots, but I am over it because I got Dragon Ball Z: Season One today (I know, super old, but I have wanted it for a while). Now I might get pissed again if it turns out to be censored like it was on the TV.

So I am going to report this to google and try and get back in their index, but if you want to show some love you could link back to joeydehnert.com with a Joey Dehnert as the keyword so I can get back to where I belong.
